About

From the time I held a crayon and brush or felt the sensation of clay squeezing between my fingers, I always loved art.  My Uncle Irv was a graphic design teacher and my Uncle Harry was an art director so art and careers in the arts were fostered in my family.  My eccentric junior high art teacher, Vida Hirsch cemented the deal.  From 9th grade, my focus was on becoming an art teacher.

I studied art at Miami Dade Community College, University of South Florida, Florida International University, and summer workshops at the University of Miami.  I found a real love and need for the art-making process and find it a meditative experience.

I taught a variety of disciplines in art from ceramics, sculpture, to Advanced Placement Studio Art, and Art History. I taught High School for 35 years and loved imparting my knowledge to students, and took pride in their successes.  Teaching is an exhausting enterprise so I found little time to do my own work.

Upon retiring from education, I was now able to focus on art-making.  I work in sculptural ceramics, watercolors, acrylic, and digital art.  At first, I was just playing around with different media and concepts.  Upon reflection, I realized that I wanted more content in my art. I WANTED MY ART TO MARK THE TIME IN WHICH I HAVE LIVED.

I work thematically and concern myself with societal and environmental events.  If nature is represented it takes place in places that I have visited.  Any still lifes are from objects around my house.  I also honor artists that have influenced me in my work.  The artists' facial features, quotes, and sections from their artwork are represented in my pieces.

I recently began showing my work and have received awards from the Florida Art Education Association Art Exhibition for the past three years for my watercolors and ceramics. My works have been exhibited in "The Gallery of Light" in Beth Or Miami.
